Bye Bye 09

Twenty10, please.

2009 was an interesting year for me. I managed to keep up without having a relapsing episode, which is groovy. Although, I did not escape a few rough nights of massive muscle spasms and pain, one being last night. I had some other set backs...mostly because of stress-related-excessive-consuming: ie food, libations, and buying too much shit. But you know, that is what 2010 will be about: self control and documentation.

On the art front, it was an awesome year.
Details to follow soon...you know...documentation.

Also have really gotten into the belly dancing again this year. I see that as a life-time thing and is worth every moment and resource I put into it. One of my goals looking forward to 2011 is to perhaps perform. Why not??

Alright, in the spirit of 2009 and the "excessive-consuming" theme, I am off to the mallz in my neat new yellow hoodie.

Have you ever heard a death rattle before?

Do think it will live up to its name, or will it just be a death hairball?? Cough.

That is one of my favorite lines from my favorite movie...well, second fav movie. Actually, it may be my favorite movie now.

Photo: These are two paintings that may not be for sale. One is a gift for someone, and one is for me to keep. Or they are for a show next year...not sure yet.

21...

Today was my anniversary...my favorite time of this day was when I was on my way to dinner.

I have been married 21 years.
The rules of Blackjack cannot apply here.
If they did my choices would be as follows:
1. Stand
2. Hit Me
3. ...Double Down is not an option here.

What does all this mean? I have no idea.

Finished Works - Stained Glass 1 & 2

I promise that next time I work bigger, that I will make one composition out it, instead of dividing it into smaller ones.

I can do it.

Don't Call Him Tiger, Let's Call Him Cheetah!

It's just funny.

Photo: This is from somewhere on the net. The meaning is that there are two sides to everything...two sides to every coin. If you remove good and evil from the equation, there are only choices...heads or tails. The rabbit or the duck.

Current WIPs

Working on two 3' x 3' canvases as Christmas gifts for a couple of friends...

I covered with a base color, taped down and then applied white paint and texture in some of the squares. I have removed the tape now and will begin painting the white squares...more to come.

In The Toilet - New Moon

Um, I literally dropped the New Moon novel in the toilet this morning. And honestly, when I was fishing it out of the bowl, it seemed like it was actually meant to be. I mean, it is kind of a piece of shit. Yet, I am compelled to read it. I may borrow another copy now in order to continue reading it.

I have been keeping my reading of the Twilight Saga hush-hush for a couple of reasons. First, it is kind of lame. Second, I am only reading it cause I want to bitch a blue streak about it once I finish it.

So, Reason 1: Lame. Yeah, this is written for teens. Reason 2: This is for teens and I hate, hate, hate the message it sends to young, teenage women. To become so fucking dependent on a man who treats you so badly. I mean, seriously. To ache for and pine away after Edward Cullen...come on. But, I keep reading it to add the fuel to bitch even more about it, cause I heard it gets worse and worse...he becomes abusive. But hey, she sticks it out, right...true love and devotion and all that.

We shall see...but, now my secret is out...Twilight is a toilet reader.

PS. I am not even going to mention the sparkling part of it...

Update: You know, maybe it landing in the toilet is a sign...maybe I should quit wasting my time and brain on it.

Freshly Baked Peg

I was the envy of the glass lady today, as mine was the only table that caught the brunt of the sunlight from the giant windows. The metallic flecks in my paint caught the sunlight, though. Ewwwww, shiny...

This is an excellent opportunity to tell you, DO NOT HANG ART IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT. Why would you do that??? There is not enough UVLS varnish I can put on the painting to help you. Just don't. Even if it catches the sparkle in the metallic paints and is shiny and pretty. It will not get leathery and wrinkled up like you or me, but it will fade over time into blah.

Also, even the UV lights in your corporate office can have an adverse effect on art. Make sure the art is under glass with UV protection, or painted with a varnish that offers UVLS protection.

Interview With Me by Drew Bilofsky

The following interview was conducted by Andrew Bilofsky earlier this year. He asked has asked me several questions about marketing myself as an independent artist. Visit Drew's site when you get a chance.

1. What did you do early in your career that lead to your success today?

Actually, I feel like I am still in the early part in my career. If I take a moment and look at where I am now as compared to say, 2006, I am on the road to succeeding. I have been painting for about fifteen years, I have been more focused on it for the past five years. I think what has helped me develop my career so far is having a dedication to try new mediums and approaches, and having a desire to keep on learning. It is so important not to get in a rut, not to get too comfortable with what you do. Be self aware. Tenacity helps, too. Maybe when I reach the point of being successful, this is what I would tell you. I know all these things are what is keeping me motivated to be on that road.

WOA...whoa, we did it for 2 years!

I participated in World of Art, which was a monthly feature on deviantArt organized by Emeraldsugar, for 2 years! It is hard to believe we had such a long run for the feature article. I think I only missed one issue the entire time...and the time just seemed to fly by.
Check out the last article here. There are links to the other articles in there.

The art above was one of my features in Traditional Collage, Sanguine by Sick-SnowAngel.
