So Sad

I loved this man's voice! He was awesome.

Peter Steele of Type O Negative is dead at 48!! This makes me so fucking sad.

My favorite TON album is October Rust.
'October Rust' Track 15 (Spoken Word Outro) - "Well, that's about it. I hope it wasn't too disappointing."

I hope it wasn't for you, too, Peter Steele.

I'm Not So Much Pissed As...

I will never forget this. Ever.

So, it was either 1999 or 2000. Those years were pretty much a blur to me. But, one thing I remember is the time I went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers show. I think it was their Californication tour. They were touring with the Foo Fighters and, at the time, a little known band called Muse. I was as excited to see the FF.

And then, first thing in the AM, day of the concent, we hear one of the guys in FF is sick...bad flu. Probably not so much the H5N1, or even the H1N1, or even the H1G1 (this is a made up flu that the guys from work and I created...Giraffe flu...more throat to get sore). Just your garden variety flu.

It turned out to be a great show, even without them. Even if I was dizzy the whole time...up in the nosebleed section.

Years later, I meet my friend Jess. Jess is pretty well known on the local music scene. We use to work together and would run into one another in the smoking area by the road. We hit it off, I designed her band's website a couple times. We were chatting one day about concerts and what-not and I told her I was bummed to have missed out on the Foo Fighters. She chuckled and said she had something to tell me...

Evidently they were in Dayton, or Toledo, or some such city, the night before the Columbus show. Jess and her buds got wind of it and they took off to hang out with them at a pub they were hanging out at. So, there is Jess, partying with the Foo Fighters...there they are getting completley smashed. There was no flu...just a ginormous hang over.

I thought it was hilarious more than anything else that she did this. Ah, Jess. She's a fun girl.

I just watched this sober...later on I will take a vicodin and see if I like it more...

Mmmm Sonic Youth in a Vicodin Haze

I am so not bored right now. Actually, I am doing pretty well. Listening the Children of Men soundtrack, which is quite incredible, by the way. Now the Sonic Youth song which I have been into lately is a cover of The Carpenters song Superstar, and is not on that soundtrack. Yeah, The Carpenters. I often get into those tribute albums and may go back and buy the whole thing. It is pretty awesome.

So, I have been high for days now. I am to a certain degree pretty much high all the time. I've lost 10 pounds now. I am in the next size down in a lot of things, so I have bought new clothes for when I return to work. Mostly red. Unfortunately I am the fattest person I know, so I'll just give the massive pile of giant clothes that are now on the floor of the extra bedroom to Goodwill or the Kidney Foundation.

I have not been as into my art as I thought I would be. I get distracted quick as fuck. Ha...what does that mean?? Depends on the guy, I guess.

Problem: Life's Little Challenges

Solution: EDITED FOR QUESTIONABLE CONTENT.
Man, I totally dig sittin' out in the lanai and watching the sunset, listening to the birds sing their last song of the day, and getting totally fascinated with the silhouettes of the trees. There are so many different trees out there. And the sunset was really gorgeous tonight. Lotsa yellow and a little pink and blue.

Thaz right, I said lanai.

I was listening to exactly two songs practically on repeat. One was NIN's A Warm Place. Now that is a kick ass song. I am trying to count it out to do an animation to it, but I keep on zoning out.

The other one is heavy inspiration for an upcoming painting.

Stratford-On-Guy

I was flying into Chicago at night
Watching the lake turn the sky into blue-green smoke
The sun was setting to the left of the plane
And the cabin was filled with an unearthly glow
In 27-D I was behind the wing
Watching landscape roll out
Like credits on a screen
The earth looked like it was lit from within
Like a poorly assembled electrical ball as we moved
Out of the farmlands into the grid
The plan of the city was all that you saw
And all of these people sitting totally still
As the ground raced beneath them thirty thousand feet down

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away

And I was pretending that I was in a Galaxie 500 video
The stewardess came back and checked on my drink
In the last strings of sunlight, a Bridgette Bardot
There's a hat on my headphones
Along with those eyes that you get
When your circumstance is movie size

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away

It took an hour, maybe a day
But once I really listened, the noise
Just went away

A Book, A Film and An Album...February

Got this idea from Chix0r on DA...I'll start out with my favs. You may have already checked them out, or maybe they are some of your favs as well.

A Book
The House of Leaves
by Mark Z. Danielewski

I love this book because Danielewski has completely ignored tradition and structured the book's layout to help tell the story. Now this book will give you a bit of a work out as you get into it, with its twists and turns. The book is about a photographer who owns a house that is not confined to the usual physical laws of the universe, and constantly shifts and changes shape and opens doors into unseen deminisions. This does not seem like the most frightening plot, but in fact it is frightening because you start to believe that the fabric of time and space around you can somehow become fragile and malleable.

A Film
Donnie Darko
Director: Richard Kelly

Currently I am reading a pretty extensive interview of the director of the film. I figured out why I love the film: Richard Kelly wrote the script to Donnie Darko without considering conventions, and from his heart. He fully explains how the story came to be. It came from one single element: the jet engine falling out of the plane. That was inspired by ice falling from a jet aircraft. Kelly then began to build the parts and pieces up from that scene. His objective was to solve the mystery of the jet engine falling from the sky.

This is a perfect example of taking a simple disjointed idea, believing in its validity and molding it into something with ingenuity and creativity. That is a beautiful thing and the very essence of what it is to be an artist. Now, keep in mind that he never once stopped to doubt himself, or second guess himself. He did not rely on convention, or let it hold him back.

An Album
October Rust
Type O Negative

I listen to this album a lot while I am painting. It is more melodic than TON's other albums. If I have to pick a fav song, it is Burnt Flowers Fallen. It is about a man whose woman has fallen out of love with him.

Bongo Drums You Say?

Why yes, thank you.

PS...Um, it is harder to play these things than you'd think. Joe is a natural drummer and just walks by and makes 'em sound like something.

But, drums and belly dance do go together.

OH yeah, Joe is a natural flutterer, which is a belly dance move where you move your diaphragm really fast and make your belly "wave". When I told him I had trouble with the move, he proceeded to lift his shirt and do it. Grrrrr. :D

Tomorrow is Friday

Yeah, man. I just got my 88-key keyboard that hooks into my Mac.

And I'm drinking a 15 year old Scotch. Senecal suggested that I buy Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 year.

I sold another painting today...of course it is at the gallery...one more day to sell there...hopefully it will not!!! Not about the commission. More about reproduction. Eve is such a fluid piece. Well they all are, but that one in particular.

This scotch is making me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Joy. Merry Christmas. By the way, I am well on my way to reintroducing "groovy" to the language. I heard it ten times today. Groovy is such a cool word.

And That's the Way It Is In Oklahoma homa....

Dig it. I need to rip this song to put on the Omnibucket site with the Amanda Palmer interview...

OH yeah, by the way, Kelly is in this video, betch.

The New Venetian Snares Release...

...is pretty awesome. I have not heard one so far that is inspiring me to make an animation, but I am sure one will come across. Not that I ever get around to such things. There is not enough time.

My list of projects keeps on growing. Right now I am working on a digital one called The Vanity of the Moon. More necrotizing flesh, but in the reflected light of the moon on the model's face. My reference is wearing these awesome leather gloves and pink iridescent stripper boots. I will probably paint on some clothes (right now she is wearing a hot pink bra and black panties). Something simple and timeless. Vanity is timeless. And not hot pink. Yeah, the boots must go. The gloves will stay. The piece is about the illusion of beauty and deception. I can see where the heavy black leather butcher gloves work within the meaning. As if she needs to be protected from touching the mirror. Anyway...yawn.

VS Mutant C*nt Sniffer Video

Posted here because Senecal thinks I am sending him a video of John Tesh. And I am not.
