Sublime Rush - Issue 004 is out!

Sublime Rush - Issue 004 is out now. I have three items in it this time around. An interview with Lolita Agogo, an interview with Giorgio Vaselli about the Energy Art Movement, and a little coverage for the AbX: Visual Rhythms show that took place at the end of May. Plus there is a ton of stuff worth checking out.

So, now I am going to write in this blog for a bit because I am an insane procrastinator. Let's talk about my addiction to Life Cereal. Now I am talking about the straight-up, original Life cereal that my not-so-little anymore "friend" Mikey use to pedal as a child actor. I love it. I need to have at least one bowl of it a day. And fuck the serving size on the box. I could live on Life cereal, so its name is very appropriate.

I think what my title is referring to is The Bachelor. I don't even watch that show, but it and shows like it, are no fucking inane that you can go along and add comments and be "right there" with people. I hate reality television. I never liked reality television. People waste their precious lives watching other people live theirs. But it is not even their lives. It is fragments of an over-the-top version of strangers (or god forbid, someone you know), that has been haggled together into whatever is the vision of the producer. Which, nothing against the producer; they at least make the inane shit mildly entertaining for the masses, so then the masses are placated and held into watching the advertisement. I did not even like the original version of this television formula/model - Real World, which was just a collection of arch types (read Chuck Klosterman's essays on it). But you know what the overarching deal is, with all of the reality-television BS? It is a way for people to have something in common. These reality stars are people's gossip surrogates. The world is still fucking high school and Hollywood is banking on it.

Anyway, no thanks.

So, one of my Scottish friends said that his tartan is made up of star-burst patterns and has "juicy" printed across his ass. I thought that was worth passing along. If I have offended any of my Scottish friends, my apologies. I still think it is funny.

Took my work down down from La Fogata the weekend before last. It is in my entryway waiting to be taken literally across the alley from La Fogata to Union Cafe on Saturday morning. I have a few extra new pieces to add to that show. Working on some big stuff.

The Golden Suicides

"And you could, in a sense, rationalize their occasional erratic behavior. They were artists, after all, and artists are allowed a degree of lunacy."

Every once in a while I talk about The Golden Suicides: artists Jeremy Blake and Theresa Duncan. Evidently one of my favorite writers, Bret Easton Ellis, is writing a screenplay for a movie about them. It may or may not be released in 2011.

I forget now how I first heard about the couple...it was either on NPR or in an issue of Vanity Fair. Their story, as sad and distraught as it was, has always fascinated me. Blake was a digital artists, doing animations and produced art for Rock Star games (you know, GTA - Vice City). Duncan produced video games, but wanted to be a screenplay writer. You can read a ton of stuff about them out there on the internets, and see some of what they created while they were here.

Mercury is Definitely Retrograding

Gah, I am exhausted. What a week. I ended up being completely unmotivated to do anything today. Completely distracted, too. And not myself. I feel sort of disconnected. A lot of it has to do with what is going on with Joe. I can't talk about it now because I don't want to make it into a bigger deal than it has to be yet. Which is partly why I have been so weird lately. I am usually pretty forward/open with stuff, but I need to keep this in check so I don't worry about things. But it manifests itself anyway.

Note to Jared: I may delete portions of this at some point in the future. Nah, I'll leave it up. I'm not brooding too much.

Went to a gallery re-opening tonight in Grandview with Remy. Had an awesome time. The opening was cool. It was a little pretentious. Then went to Old Bag O Nails after. Byrnes was super crowded, and I hate to have too many people around me.

So, Remy and I may open a gallery together someday, which sounds cool to me. I am actually thinking of starting an online gallery soon. Sort of like Abstract Earth.

Gah, I am too tired to type...I'll be back tomorrow.
